Trumbull County Collection Facility

Household Hazardous Waste - Electronics - Appliance Recycling

The Geauga and Trumbull Collection Facilities are an outlet for residents of Geauga and Trumbull County to safely dispose of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), Electronics (e-waste) and appliances.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)
Materials such as used oil, oil-based paints, fluorescent lights, solvents, gasoline, pesticides, herbicides, and various other cleaners and products used in residential homes should not be put in with your regular trash. Your trash goes to a landfill, where it is buried in the ground. These chemicals can leach into the soil, potentially polluting the groundwater and air.

Our Collection Facilities accept HHW materials, where they are collected, sorted, packaged and transported offsite for proper treatment, recycling or disposal.

HHW is flammable and requires certain building safety features. Because our Trumbull Collection Facility was built for warm weather use ONLY, we cannot accept HHW at Trumbull during the winter months, though we can still accept electronics and appliances.
The new Geauga Collection Facility was designed for year-round use. Trumbull County residents are welcome to bring their HHW to the Geauga Collection Facility on Fridays during winter months.

Electronics (e-waste)
The Collection Facility also accepts electronic items such as computer equipment, stereos, televisions, DVD players, VCRs, phones, fans, etc., as well as small Freon bearing appliances for recycling.

Many old electronic devices (e-waste) contain toxic substances that include lead, mercury, cadmium, beryllium, polyvinyl chloride and chromium. Like the HHW materials described above, e-waste tossed in your regular trash is buried in a landfill, where these chemicals can leach into the soil, potentially polluting the groundwater and air.
Also, recycling e-waste saves energy and raw materials. Fewer raw materials need to be drawn from nature to create new devices.

Some larger household appliances contain substances like Freon, CFCs, HCFCs contaminated oils, and mercury and need to have these materials removed before disposal. You can bring these types of items (A/C units, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, freezers, microwaves, etc.) to our collection facility for proper disposal or recycling.

We can also accept appliances made primarily of metal for scrapping.

E-waste and appliances are collected all winter long at the Trumbull Collection Facility on Wednesdays

If you are unsure if something you want to dispose of belongs in your trash, please call us and ask!

We cannot accept any materials from commercial operations/businesses.
